Established in July 2020, Waterbury Empowers the People to ACT (WEPA) is a group of Latinx residents and organizers collectively joined in undoing white supremacy and its oppressive systems by supporting local organizing, promoting civic engagement, educating through resistance and liberation, and creating spaces for healing and joy. While sustainable organizing in Waterbury (CT) has historically been a challenge, on May 28th, Waterbury residents took to the streets to protest the murders of George Floyd, Amaud Arbery, and Breona Taylor. The message was loud and clear: in Waterbury and across the world, Black Lives Matter.
The time for justice and liberation is now and we will fight collectively for true liberation.
