October 12, 2018 Roundtable with Representative Elizabeth Etsy: Issues Concerning the LGBTQIA+ Community Western Connecticut University
"If your movement building for the LGBTQ community is not intentionally and directly divesting from and dismantling white supremacy, your movement is literally just a parade, a show.
My work centers brown and black queers. My work centers folks who are impacted by compounding systems. My work centers folks who are navigating, surviving - to often not - institutionalized racism, genderism, misogyny, cisheterosexism and classism.
And white supremacy does not only impact folks of color, but explicitly informs how current systems understand gender as a binary and sexuality as hetero-normative. So this movement, that centers white cis gay men needs a wake-up call. Their liberation is rooted in the dismantling of white supremacy as much as it is for queers of color."
